You always need to have a breakdown of the particular sequence that was used to be able to determine which numbers in the sequence indicate what. There are some products where the year is imbedded in the string of numbers after the dot, but often closer to the end of the sequence. The next 5 numbers are the "catalog" or "stock" number of the unit and are what would be written on your receipt when you purchased the unit. In the numbers you gave, the first number after the dot indicates the decade.
The sequence and decoding have been changed over the years, and it's too easy to get confused or mislead by trying to apply a particular pattern to every case. That's not always how it works on the appliances. My other washers & dryers - 110.87694510, 110.72993280 and 110.87093800 were all obtained used, so without knowing this about numbers I wouldn't know how old they are (but they all work fine).So I know they were doing this at least back to 1972, and I would REALLY be interested if this was carried into consumer electronics and how far back. Not only that, but in the appliances, anyway - and it MAY go to electronics and other items, although I'm not sure how far back, the next 2 digits after the. on Kenmore appliances indicates Whirpool.
I know this is sort of off-topic, but.Not always in the same industry either. As vendors from the earlier years went out of business or no longer supplied products to Sears, the obsolete source code numbers were reassigned to other manufacturers. Although the list is not released to the public, it's common knowledge to those in the service trades who the sources are.
